Meet Emerald Barnes and Her Latest Novel, Delivered by Angels!
One of the best things to have come out of my experience as an author with Vox Dei Publishing, is having “met” and gotten to know other authors and team members who love the Lord above all else, and who also love the written word. Today I have the privilege of introducing you to my friend and fellow former Vox Dei author, Emerald Barnes. This is release week for the third novel in her Angel series: Delivered by Angels. Emerald explains what drew her to tell this unfamiliar story. Funny how God often chooses to take us well outside our comfort zone! Thank you, Emerald, for sharing your heart with us today.
I never thought I would write a book like the one I just released. Delivered by Angels was probably the most difficult book I have written to date, and it has nothing to do with the plot, but everything to do with the subject matter: depression, self-harm, and suicide.
Why would I write such a book, especially as someone who hasn’t struggled with any of those things before? The simple, yet difficult, answer is God.
It takes a certain amount of obedience to say, “Yes, Lord, I’ll write this book I have no experience with.” It also takes a lot of prayer. I wasn’t certain how on earth I was going to write this book. As I said, I had no experience with any of this. I felt confused, worried, and somehow disassociated with this novel—until I started writing it.
The words somehow came to life, and they made me cry. They filled me with sadness as I thought about how people struggle with this on a daily basis, how there are people in the world who feel hopeless and see no way out. And I wanted to bring them hope somehow, even if it was through the only way I knew how, the written word.
I don’t know why God laid this story on my heart, but I’m glad He did. It has opened my eyes to the hurt that people bury. It has given me a purpose, to show others that they aren’t alone.
I don’t know if you have a story. I don’t know if others know your story, but I do know that if you are suffering, if you are hurting, God knows and loves you. He will literally send angels to help you. He will send humans to help you. He will do anything for you. And that is what I hope to share in my stories and on social media, even in my daily life. If I can help one person, then I’m doing what God wants me to do.
Being obedient is hard. Sometimes, I wondered if I should even be doing this. Is this really what you want of me, God? Are you sure, God? Why would you want me to write this, God? But it’s clear to me that it doesn’t matter how I felt about it. It mattered what God felt about it. He obviously wanted this written, and He wanted me knowing more about it because He placed it on my heart to pray for everyone who feels like they’re alone, who feels like they can’t go on another day, because you can. You can do it, but you don’t have to do it alone.
About Delivered by Angels
Determined to escape her abusive father and drunken mother, Lexi Johnson turns to the blade to numb her pain, but it isn’t enough to end her misery. She’s convinced that not even God could save her now.
Roxy Taylor is the new girl in town, and Lexi doesn’t trust her, especially when she teams up with DJ Tucker to try and break down the barriers that Lexi has put in place.
Little does Lexi know, there are greater forces battling for her life, and as Lexi begins to open up to both Roxy and DJ, she’ll see that she isn’t alone in this world.
In the heart-pounding sequel to Entertaining Angels, everyone’s favorite angel, Zach Taylor, is back, and he’s there to make sure that Madison and Chase Sanders are on the path that God has chosen for them, a path that could deliver Lexi from the demons who want her soul.
